GIS and spatial analysis for coastal and marine projects
Coastal data comes from many sources: survey points, habitat maps, bathymetry, satellite layers, each in its own format and projection. I bring them into one consistent GIS, so they can be mapped and analysed together.
What I can do
- Maps: survey sites, habitats and results, ready for reports and publications.
- Spatial analysis: distances, overlaps, buffers and densities, for example how much of a habitat falls inside a protected area.
- Sampling design on the map: choosing and spreading sampling sites before fieldwork.
- Clean spatial data: consistent projections, attributes and metadata, so layers line up and can be reused.
How a project runs
- A short call about the question, the data you have and when you need it.
- A look at a sample of the data, then a written proposal with the approach, its limits and the time it will take.
- The work itself, with the decisions written down as I go.
- Delivery and a walk-through of the results, plus the files and code.
What you get
- Maps in the formats you need (print, report, web).
- The GIS project and cleaned layers, documented.
- Python or QGIS processing steps, so the maps can be updated.
Background
As a lecturer assistant at the Universidad de Oriente (2011–2014), I did the GIS work for several students' thesis projects on the Venezuelan coast. I work with ArcGIS, QGIS and Python.
Tell me about your data.
A few lines are enough: the question, the data you already have and when you need it. I reply in English, Portuguese or Spanish.
